Susan Ratky Ball is a fabulous oil painter based in the west of Sonoma County, which lies a little ways north of San Francisco, California. Her attention to detail and her command of color and movement in what appear to be static scenes is remarkable, and to show off her award-winning artwork in an online format, she chose GaelDesign for the creation of her Web site. This was an exciting project to work on, for art and design have gone hand in hand for countless numbers of generations, and what better way to present glorious artwork online than in the context of a beautiful and elegant Web site?

Living with Diabetes: Wellness Series Online

One of the most extensive Web site projects GaelDesign has completed to date, the Living with Diabetes online educational course was developed by a non-profit health education organization, in conjunction with two other companies as well as GaelDesign. We did all of the graphics design and HTML layout and made significant contributions to the organization of the site. We also worked extensively with the companies responsible for the content development and the database and PHP programming for the server side of the site.

Highlander Graphics Software

Highlander Graphics Software is a successful retail company specializing in Celtic clip-art and various Celtic-themed products. GaelDesign designed their entire Web site and developed an extensive online catalog, using an off-the-shelf shopping cart system. We also put up an online form which enables people to submit questions they may have regarding the company's software.

GaelDesign also created a Web site for HGS's sister site, Highlander Celtic Stamps. We had some fun with the rubber stamps theme of the site, as you can see in the main title graphics.

Advanced Data Engineering, Inc.

Advanced Data Engineering, Inc. (ADEi) was a small start-up company in Northern California that specialized in developing custom information systems using a variety of technologies including XML data structures. They were purchased in November 2000 by SoftQuad Software, Ltd., based in Toronto, Canada (now part of DEEPWHITE™, a subsidiary of Corel® Corporation). SoftQuad had discovered ADEi on the Internet through the Web site that GaelDesign had created for ADEi, and the professional design of the site was one of the main reasons SoftQuad first entered into business discussions with ADEi.

XML-it

XML-it was a complete solution ADEi developed that could take Microsoft® Word documents and translate them to XML or other specific data formats. GaelDesign created the interface to the Web application portion of XML-it that dealt with job management and file transfer settings for the system. We also created a Flash animation for the ADEi Web site presenting the benefits of the XML-it solution and showing how the various XML-it environments worked together.

A California Revels CD

Jared White, in addition to his role as President and Art Director of GaelDesign, is also a member of the Celtic and Early music ensemble Distant Oaks (see below). Distant Oaks played an important part in the music production of the 2001 California Revels CD Christmas in an Irish Castle, and GaelDesign played an important part in the art production of the CD packaging. We worked closely with the recording's producer and lead harpist, Cheryl Ann Fulton, to bring out a festive and historical feeling in the artwork. With a 24 page booklet and a heavily decorated tray card and front cover design, it was quite an extensive project.

Lightyear Consulting

We designed several HTML e-mail newsletters for Lightyear Consulting during Spring/Summer 2001. One particular challenge was the integration of Lightyear's logo, which was only obtainable in a low resolution bitmap, into our own design. In addition to the work on the newsletters themselves, we helped select mass e-mailing software for the company that supported HTML e-mail and assisted Lightyear in creating a workflow for importing their Netscape Messenger mailing lists into the software.
